A PAIR OF 3′S FOR BEN AT WHYNOT
Posted on July 17, 2011 by
(Hattiesburg, MS) Ben had planned to race his #34 LUCAS OIL/Schoenfeld Headers/Genesis Shocks/Brinn Transmissions modified Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park but Mother Nature prevailed with too much rain. Saturday night Ben traveled to Whynot Motorsports Park for a weekly event and came away with a pair of 3’s.
Ben started 8th in his heat race and quickly found that his setup changes of late have resulted in much better corner speed and drive off. He charged from 8th to 3rd in the 10-lap heat. With passing points in hand Ben started the A-Main on the outside of the front row next to perennial Super Late Model driver Mike Boland in one of his new Track Star modifieds. Boland would fire early and take the lead as the green flag flew. Ben fell in behind for second working the cushion as Boland worked the bottom. The K1 of Randy King got by Ben for second but later spun putting Ben back on Boland’s rear bumper for the re-start and King at the rear of the field.
As Ben chased the veteran Boland the two kept a tight battle but couldn’t break from the field as two cautions closed the field. With only two laps remaining Ben had moved to the bottom groove and had his nose inside of Boland challenging for the lead. This battle for the lead and two late race cautions allowed the K1 to catch and eventually pass both “B’s” for the win.
Ben will continue to fill his summer schedule with weekly shows at Hattiesburg, Whynot or Jackson as he finalizes plans to attend a special 2-day USRA Modified show at West Plains Speedway in West Plains, MO August 5 & 6.
