Ben returned to Whynot Motorsports Park Saturday night to get reacquainted with the “House of Hook.” Hattiesburg Speedway was rained out Friday night so this made for an excellent opportunity to knock a little more rust off the driver for the second half of the season. Ben’s surgically repaired lower back appears to be handling the rigors of dirt track racing so it’s “Go time” for the #34 LUCAS Oil Products modified.

Ben was lucky to draw the pole for his heat race but it was shot-lived as he fell back to 4th in the early stages. He gathered his rhythm, moved back to 3rd and eventually finished 2nd at the checkers.

He started 3rd in the modified feature after making minor pre-race adjustments for an extremely dry-slick track. The top-5 contenders put on an amazing show and were pretty evenly matched. After a 20-lap battle Ben took the checkers in 3rd, no dents, no damage and a better feeling about his return to this fast, momentum track.

Being away from the shop all weekend, Ben’s backup driver, Bowen, didn’t have much time to work on his cardboard race car. It remains on jack stands awaiting Bowen’s wrenching skills, stickers and magic markers!
