BEN SURVIVES LONG NIGHT FOR 4TH

Posted on August 20th, by Bob Stephens

Once again the Southern Street Stock Nationals at Whynot Motorsports Park evolved into a major event. Expanding to a 3-night program with an optional practice on Wednesday, many racers had a major investment of time, money and sweat equity pursuing those big cardboard checks. The modified portion of the program called for heat races Friday night with their Feature race Saturday night. Ben lined up 4th in the first heat and took the checkers in 2nd. He would start 4th in Saturday’s Modified Feature that had $1,500 written on their big cardboard check.

Eventhough Saturday’s drivers meeting started at 5:30 and B-Main and Last Chance Qualifier racing commenced shortly thereafter, it was apparent we were in for a long night/early morning. With over 300 race cars in six classes, there were a lot of laps to be made to ensure everyone had a chance to qualify for a class Main Event.

The modifieds were finally called to line up and took the track at 1:30 AM Sunday morning. Starting outside second row, Ben had an excellent line to the outside groove on a track the had already seen hundreds of laps. In the early stage of the race he made his way to 2nd but was battling an ill-handling race car. Ben eventually gave up 2nd and settled into 3rd for a consistent green flag run. On the white-flag lap he lost one more spot and took the checkers in 4th. A hard-fought battle in the wee hours of the morning and the car was loaded into the trailer in one piece.

We certainly appreciate all the support from friends, family and sponsors to make it possible for Ben to display his driving talent.

We truly appreciate all the help and contributions from our loyal sponsors.
