BEN TAKE RUNNER-UP AT BATTLE OF THE STATES

Posted on March 10th, by Bob Stephens

(Sumrall, MS) This report is a little delayed from this past Saturday night’s Battle of the States season opener at Whynot Motorsports Park, the “House of Hook.” An early start in the afternoon did not materialize into an earlier evening conclusion but the racing action on the excellently prepared surface was fast and furious. Ben timed in 2nd quick in a stout field of modified aces. Ben took the lead at the drop of the green flag in his heat race and strolled to a comfortable win. He made minor chassis adjustments for a fast smooth track and put on some new rear meats. Starting from outside the front row for the Feature, Ben and the pole-sitter commenced a torrid door-to-door battle at the drop of the green flag. After a handful of laps, Ben eased into the lead and established a three-to-four car advantage over the field. “I probably ran the car too hard in the early laps not realizing the race would go caution free,” Ben commented after the race and inspecting a blistered right rear tire.

In the closing laps, Ben encountered the tail of the field and at one point had to check-up to avoid two cars in his groove. A hard-charging competitor took advantage of the situation and passed Ben on the high side. Ben mounted a charge but didn’t have the grip and drive due to the blister right rear. He settled for second, loaded the car in one piece and headed to the house for another 2am return.
