DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER HEAT RACE VICTORY

Posted on July 12, 2011 by Bob Stephens

(Hattiesburg, MS) Friday night Ben made the short journey to Hattiesburg Motorsports Park for a weekly event. Ben managed to convert his 7th place starting position into a heat race victory as he cruised past the field on the outside. “The car was pretty good and when everyone was fighting for the bottom the high-side was open so I just motored right on by,” Ben commented after the win.

He made minor chassis adjustments for his pole-position start in the A-main. At the drop of the green the outside pole sitter drove deeper into turns one and two and came down the back straight with the lead. Early in the race Ben started developing a fuel pressure problem but managed to stay in the top three. On a late race re-start a competitor tried to make it three wide down the front straight going into turn one with Ben on the inside. Ben sustained right-side damage and what he felt was a bent right-rear wheel. After loosing several spots he fought his way back and finished 4th as the checkers flew.

Ben will repair the right-side damage and return to Hattiesburg this coming Friday night.
